Not to be outdone - oh no - my dad made us the infamous Persian dish, fesenjoon. The dark brown (almost black) colour comes from tamarind paste which also accounts for the tart taste. The sauce has a creamy peanutty consistency. This dish also normally includes pomegranate juice, nuts and meat. My dad's recipe though uses 'bulla bulla' (aka meatballs).
